Kristin Fioretti
Yorktown Heights, New York
Siem Reap, Cambodia
My name is Kristin Fioretti-Reterski and I am a graduate student at the University of Virginia studying public policy. I graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. My time at UVM taught me the importance of adventure and going where I never thought possible; from being the first person in my family to graduate college to traveling abroad for the first time. My passion is to never stop exploring, and since leaving UVM I have served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua, lived and worked in New York City, and traveled the world. In July, I will be studying to become a certified yoga-therapy based teacher at Tavoos Garden in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This trip combines everything that I love about yoga, devotion, and challenging myself through self-discipline and awareness.
Kristin’s Adventure Scholarship was generously sponsored by Jackie Hawks.

Onward and Upward,
The Flyin Ryan Team
It has been over 10 years since Ryan died tragically while skiing in a free ride extreme skiing world tour event at Kirkwood, California. At that time we lost his body, but his spirit continues to be a current event. Ryan and his ever present smile had a positive impact on his surroundings and the people around him during his 25 years of life.
The Flyin Ryan Foundation has expanded that impact to thousands of adventurers who have come to know him since his passing. On November 13, what would have been Ryan’s 36th birthday, we encourage you to do something fun, look out for others, find an adventure, smile and eat cookies. Please consider making a donation in Ryan’s name to honor his remarkable life. Link in bio.🍻

News update from adventure scholar Helen Salvatore!
Helen is senior at UVM pursuing a Parks Recreation and Tourism degree. This summer she spent almost entirely outside. It did not matter whether she were guiding on the river, living out of her car, or climbing one of the tall peaks in the Adirondacks; she was in nature. When Helen is not guiding through white waters or bagging peaks, she is an avid skier. Follow the link in our bio to see what she had to share after her summer!

Our recent Adventure Scholarship recipient, Elliot Diana, has started a webpage where he is collecting donations to support scholarships for children struggling financially to traverse the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. Please donate if you can through the link in our bio and follow along on his adventure!

Welcome our newest Adventure Scholar to the family, Elliot Diana!
"I write this application for the purpose of solo paddling the Northern Forest Canoe trail this spring.
As a child, we moved around, but I have always always worked and played outside. I was blessed with a northern family that emphasized good cooking, hard work and outdoor recreation. I was raised in a canoe and have always been encouraged to adventure when I can.
Music, building, sugaring and cooking have made up my livelihood for many years now since graduating from UVM in 2017 with a degree in Natural Resources Ecology. Many seasons have also been spent guiding dog sledding in Ely, Minnesota, leading UVM rock climbing trips and working in the outdoor education industry.
Now, at 27 years of age, I live in a small, off grid structure I built in Hinesburg, Vermont. My greatest passion is learning and using the forest, followed in second by playing music." - Elliot
During this trip Elliot will be setting up an advocacy trail for which will allow children from low socio-economic households to go on canoe trips on their local section of the trail.
"This world is not set up fairly. There are children that never look at the rivers in their backyards and see people paddle by that will never be able to know what it is like to travel on that river. This trip is not only about me, but about the children that were not as lucky as I was growing up to be exposed to the canoe."

The following is an update from Eyuel Seyoum, who received his Adventure Scholarship award in January 2021 and who has since returned from his cross-country bike tour!
It is with great joy that I inform you that I have completed my cross-country bike tour across the US. First off all, I would like to thank your foundation for the contribution you made towards achieving my goal. I used the funds towards purchasing a Jamis Renegade gravel bike. It was a great bike for the trip, as it allowed me to travel on both pavement and gravel and was very well set up for lightweight touring.
My partner Adele and I biked from Yorktown VA to the US-Canada border town in Blaine Washington, and then finished in Seattle WA. Along the way, we experienced a full display of the United States’ varied landscapes in. We saw the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in Virginia & Kentucky, the rolling Ozarks in Illinois and Missouri, the flat farmlands of Kansas and East Colorado, the snow-capped Rockies in Colorado, the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in Wyoming & Montana, the beautiful Clark Fork Valley in Idaho, and the varied landscapes of Washington, including the North Cascades and the San Juan Islands.
