Simon Jones

Omaha, Nebraska

My name is Simon Jones and I am choosing to live a better life every day. “When cancer tried to knock Simon Jones out of the game he picked himself up and led the way. In January 2013, at the age of 13, Simon Jones was playing indoor soccer, swimming on his Middle School swim team and navigating the halls as an A+ 8th grader when he was diagnosed with DSRCT, a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma. Simon is now 17 and a senior in high school in Omaha Nebraska. He is very involved with his church and youth group. He is President of the Teen Advisory Council at Children’s Hospital in Omaha Ne., and hopes to attend college next year and study Mechanical Engineering. Simon chooses to live, and to live better. Simon competes in Cross Country, Track and Field and competitive Bike Club between chemotherapy treatments, radiation treatments, and multiple surgeries. Whenever he has the chance and his health will allow, he will try new adventurous activities. His favorite is surfing. He has had the opportunity to surf only a few times and amazes everyone with his determination and courage. Simon and his family are going on his Bucket List Adventure. They will be traveling to California and along the way Simon will White Water Raft, zip-line, go mountain biking and of course he will surf. Simon will be sharing his inspirational story of courage and determination and be writing a blog about how to live a full “BETTER” life in spite of personal circumstances.
