The Flyin Ryan Adventure Scholarship Program honors the memory of “Flyin” Ryan Hawks by making monetary awards to enable the adventures of individuals around the world. In addition to demonstrating financial need, applicants are asked to connect their mind, heart and spirit to determine their own Core Values and to demonstrate their passion for their goals. We wish to create supportive community around our Adventure Scholarship recipients and support them in all of their life adventures, even after the award is used.

Farid Noori

Farid Noori received an award in April 2019 with the goal of becoming Afghanistan’s first pro mountain biker and to eventually race in the Olympics. His mission is to bring awareness about the sport to his country.

In the past three months, Farid has moved from his temporary training base at Homestretch Foundation, a Tucson-based cycling residency and non-profit organization that works to bring gender equality in the sport of cycling, to Boulder, Colorado. In Boulder, Farid works part time at a bike shop as a sales associate, and dedicates most of his time to training and growing his newborn non-profit organization, Mountain Bike Afghanistan. MTB Afghanistan was incorporated as a non-profit this June in Pennsylvania with a Board of Directors that have former pro cyclists, as well as people experienced in the nonprofit and business world.

At the moment, Farid is busy raising funds for the second annual Hindukush MTB Challenge, a cross-country mountain bike race his organization launched for the first time in Afghanistan last year.
